WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
