Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications that treat adhd titration meaning symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, by video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not unusual to have to titrate two or three medicines before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is important that parents are involved in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment, your medication will be issued with an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed you will be able to schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist, as necessary. The appointment will usually be conducted through a zoom video call. In some instances, it could be possible for an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage as well as a discussion of any possible side effects you might be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be experiencing or other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. ADHD is a genetic condition, and it's vital to examine your family history to determine if you're at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

During this assessment it is vital that you are truthful and honest with the clinician in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine if you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an essential step in the process since a failure to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.

If you're not sure which one you prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP before booking your private examination as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want an official diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a crucial element of their treatment. The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.
