How to Replace an audi replacement keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor Audi replacement keys fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. 4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, for example. 5. Tachometer
