It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector).
