WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. They can make use of Flightstones that are a common upgrade currency available to all players, or crests, which are more specialized and consumed during upgrades at specific levels of items. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item level upgrade is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment available and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
