3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheel buggy is great for tackling off-road terrain providing an easy ride for your infant. Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle difficult terrain, then you'll need one with large wheels. These will cope well over grass, cobbles and dirt tracks while providing an enjoyable ride for anyone. They are also great for jogging, as they have a suspension built-in and are easy to climb up and down kerbs. The downside is that they are quite heavy to push.

It comes with tyres filled with air which require pumping up every now and then. It can carry children until the age of three. The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another great option. It comes with a movable handlebar, a top-quality hood that provides 50+ UV protection and a high quality hood. It's also easy to get up and down kerbs, and it can fit in small car boots. It can be used as a stroller along with a carrycot for newborns or toddlers.

Fabric sling seats sit snugly inside the buggie's frame instead of on top of it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is much easier to push and is lighter to kerb-pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you'll do that as a new parent!).

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is impressive, and there are a number of different choices to choose from. For babies, there is the option to use the carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy), while older babies and toddlers can be seated in the parent-facing or world-facing seat that is large and padded, and comes with adjustable ventilation. The seats do not fully recline, but they can be adjusted to the lowest position. This should still give your child plenty of room and headroom.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which offers the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame, rather than over the top of an open-back seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat handled the obstacles.

In addition to a large shopping basket, this kind of buggy generally has quite useful features, such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy-to-use brake pedal, and a few game-changing visibility lights that appear from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the passengers to improve their safety when tackling tricky terrain.

Stores

The 3 wheel running stroller-wheeled model is more stable and can be pushed with just one hand. It's also better for difficult terrain. However, it does mean that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

The MFM reviewers noted that the 3-wheeler frames couldn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're concerned about space, make sure to check out the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before buying.

It's worth looking for a 3-wheeler that can take two (or even 3 wheel stroller for running (Continuing)!) seats once your family grows - these are the best of both worlds and can help you to save money in the future. Tyres

Air filled tyres are made to give your child an easier ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easy to tackle cobbles and kerbs.

They can be tricky to keep inflated and must be replenished regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, which is why it is recommended to always carry a repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be seen on a lot more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, but they are still just as sturdy. You can identify PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also glide well on even and tied surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can tell if they are PU or rubber. If it feels as if it's moving, then it's a rubber or PU. You can also test if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres sliding them across a flat, clean surface. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are commonly utilized in high-performance buggies and joggers because they can cope with the rough terrain associated with this kind of pushchair. This could make your buggy less stable as the foam will lose its springy quality. Also, these tyres may often be noisy as they create lots of noise when you turn and make your way through the town.
