About Toto

Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.

In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a flop however, they bounce back with their fourth release Isolation with two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour made them a household brand around the world.

After a hiatus of a few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums, and features some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.

During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to change their name and create a new album with an entirely new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The album was a return form for the group, and the tour accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
