Our service is able to provide private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or over the phone). Your physician will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you to titrate your dose to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks, and involves gradually adjusting your child's medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to need to titrate several times before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential for parents to take part in this process of titration and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment, your medication will be given as a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is completed you will be able to book follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it might be possible to do an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects that you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration consultations is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be experiencing or other mental health problems that you may be experiencing. ADHD is a genetic condition, and it's vital to assess your family background to determine if you're at chance of developing this disorder.

During the assessment, it is essential to be truthful and honest with your doctor, as they will use the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. If you're not sure which one you prefer, we suggest that you speak with your GP prior to booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also advise to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement', which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be sent back to them to get the prescription for the medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential part of the journey for many people who are seeking an official ADHD diagnosis. The process of getting an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that provides an assessment that is private and titration. This can reduce your wait time significantly and is more convenient if you're working and have a busy schedule.

After you've been referred through this route, your chosen clinician will assess you and decide whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the main ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could suggest you should not take adhd titration private medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into account any medical conditions you may have. Based on the type of medication you are taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly.
